Several areas in Polokwane, Limpopo, have been facing acute water shortage for the past four days.

The affected areas include some parts of town, and extensions such as Legae la Batho and Seshego.

Municipal spokesperson Tshidiso Mothapo blames the problem on lightning and hail which struck some electrical switches at the Sand River waterworks.

“The municipality is in a situation as a result of the hailstorm that we suffered on Thursday which affected the pump station ATB the Sand River there’s progress in regard to replacement of switches that were damaged by lightning at the Sand River in the meantime the municipality has deployed water tankers to provide relief to the affected areas.”
